Job Description


Objectives:

To provide support to the operational and commercial teams in overseeing buying activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Show ability to understand broad scope of service and specifications
  • Monitoring of costs and purchasing volumes in connection with procured goods and services
  • Management of procurement admin team acting as a point of escalation and supporting personal development
  • Raising/approving orders for materials/subcontractors/hire equipment
  • Validation and system updates in relation to receipting of goods and services and resolution of supplier invoice queries
  • Review of supplier information and understanding of what drives value in terms of money and service levels
  • Maintain relationships with suppliers to drive value for money and excellent service
  • Promote supplier benefits to ensure operations are utilising strategic arrangements
  • Assist in collation of audit, statistical and financial information to support operational and commercial management reporting
  • Assist in the preparation of procurement packages and analysis of returns
  • Follow processes and use IT systems that meet the required way of working
  • Ensure compliance with company procedures at all times
  • Demonstrate flexibility and carry out any other ad hoc duties as required and deemed reasonable

Competences:

  • Attention to detail with strong planning, organisation and prioritisation skills
  • Able to interpret system data
  • Good grasp of IT – particularly Excel
  • Well developed communication skills. Able to build and sustain relationships with key stakeholders

  • Previous experience in a supervisory position (E)
  • Previous buying experience (D)
  • CIPS qualification (D)

Measures of Success:

  • Accurate measurement and reporting of buying activity
  • Purchasing from preferred suppliers and reduction of supplier base
  • Timely reconciliation of receipting of deliveries and invoices to maintain J Tomlinson’s reputation as a good customer
