Fire station built by J Tomlinson wins two RICS awards

May 8, 2017

The construction team at J Tomlinson is celebrating after the London Road Fire Station in Nottingham scooped two accolades at the East Midlands RICS Awards 2017.

The fire station, completed by J Tomlinson last year, triumphed in the infrastructure and the regeneration categories of the awards, announced at a ceremony in Leicester.

It will now go forward to the national RICS Awards Grand Final, which will be held in London in November 2017.

Last October, the fire station won the regeneration category in the East Midlands fbe Awards 2016, and it has also been shortlisted as a finalist in the Project of the Year category of the 2017 East Midlands Celebrating Construction Awards, which will be held at the Nottingham Belfry on 19 May 2017.

J Tomlinson managing director (construction), Martin Gallagher, said: “Winning two RICS awards is great news for the whole team involved in the project to create a new fire station for Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service.

“The key members of the construction team alongside J Tomlinson were all Nottingham companies, and, as a Nottingham-based firm ourselves, we were proud to have played a part in developing a new public service building for the city.

“J Tomlinson has wide experience of working on projects for the emergency services, including the fire service, police, and ambulance, as well as working for the reserve forces, and it’s a ringing endorsement when a scheme is hailed as an award winner.”

The London Road Fire Station has created a new, purpose-built facility for the fire service and Nottingham City Council’s Emergency Planning Team. Completed in August 2016, it complements the city’s south side regeneration plans, helps to regenerate the London Road gateway into the city, and has made excellent use of a previously run-down site in a high-profile location.

Other members of the development team included CPMG Architects and project manager, CPMG’s client, Turner & Townsend.

Ian Pritchard, Head of Estates at Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: “We are really pleased that London Road Fire Station has been recognised with two RICS awards, and since opening in September 2016, the station has made a real positive impact on the surrounding communities, as well as the environment.

“The new location and purpose-built station has provided us with the opportunity to offer our firefighters modern facilities and we are thrilled that our award-winning station will be able to help to create safer communities for many years to come.”
