March 6, 2019
The construction team at J Tomlinson has begun working on the development of £5.2m worth of industrial units in Market Harborough.
The new Airfield Business Park development, which is set to create over 200 jobs in the area, will offer a range of high-specification lettable industrial units, ranging from 1,570 to 33,360 sq. ft.
J Tomlinson was appointed as principal contractor of this Leicestershire County Council-funded scheme following a 2-stage procurement process that concluded towards the end of 2018, in which J Tomlinson scored the highest.
A ground-breaking ceremony on 26th February officially marked commencement of the project, which is due to complete in November 2019.
The firm’s extensive experience in delivering design and build industrial projects will be instrumental in ensuring the smooth running of the project. Key aspects of work will include robust risk and traffic management, access control, and minimising disruption to existing local businesses. The project will also entail the management of associated drainage and external works, including creation of car parking facilities.
Darroch Baker, construction managing director at J Tomlinson, commented: “J Tomlinson is very pleased to have been appointed to deliver the design and build of this scheme, which is the latest in a number of industrial projects the company has been involved in during the last two years. We look forward to constructing first-class, modern units in which growing local companies can thrive.”
Leicestershire County Council cabinet member, Blake Pain, said: “We’re delighted to be starting work on this venture. This will have a positive impact on the town, which is one of our top priorities, as well as boosting the local economy and creating jobs.”
