Objectives / Purpose of Role
J. Tomlinson have recently commenced a four year scheme in Doncaster, to undertake a wide range of repairs to social housing, including external wall insulation, roofing, heating & electrical installations, window & door replacements, and garage demolitions & refurbishments.

Working within our Regeneration department, we are looking for an Apprentice Quantity Surveyor to start their journey into the construction industry. The role will involve working as part of a team and will be both office and site based. Through your training plan you will develop communication, analytical and negotiation skills, together with time management and work prioritisation.

Specific Responsibilities
The role will assist in the commercial management of our scheme, with multiple projects on site at any one time. In carrying out your duties, you will use spreadsheets, word processing and our IFS accounts management system. Responsibilities will include:

·         Recording site measurements

·         Preparing enquiries & obtaining subcontract quotes

·         Attending site meetings

·         Preparing subcontract order documents

·         Pricing works from schedules of rates.

·         Checking & processing subcontractor applications for payment

·         Preparing monthly valuations

·         Preparing final accounts

  • Business and Commercial Focus – You understand how your work contributes to the Company business strategy, aware of commercial costs and benefits when making financial decisions and identify improvements or efficiencies to your stakeholders in how you operate.

Applicant Requirements
·         General understanding of using IT (Laptop etc), use of word & excel.

·         Ability to present information neatly and in a way that is easy to understand.

·         Feeling comfortable speaking to a room of people

·         Full driving licence is essential (E)
