Nottinghamshire County Council is the upper-tier local authority for the non-metropolitan county of Nottinghamshire in England.
The new Mansfield Passenger Interchange replaced the original Bus Station on Rosemary Street, which was constructed in 1977. With an increased volume of public transport passengers (16,000 a day) in the area, the Council was keen to continue to encourage this growth by creating an improved fully enclosed Interchange facility, offering protection from the weather, comfortable seating, electronic information displays and 24 hour CCTV, creating a more relaxed and safer waiting environment for passengers. Additionally, the new facility needed to be energy efficient, utilising renewable and green technologies effectively.
Following a competitive tender, J Tomlinson was invited by the main contractor (Kier) to undertake the Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) Services on this project. Our extensive experience working within many successful partnerships, including a 10-year Partnership with Nottinghamshire County Council combined with our energy efficiency expertise, made J Tomlinson the ideal partner to work in close conjunction with Kier and the County Council.
J Tomlinson provided a multifaceted Building Management System in order to integrate the complex control systems and ensure efficient running of the station.
In line with the client’s energy efficiency requirements, we also designed and installed:

I look forward to working with J Tomlinson again on similar projects in the future.”
The new facility is already encouraging more people to use public transport, bringing investment and increased trade to the area. Mansfield Bus Station is well on the way to becoming the busiest and most energy efficient bus station in the UK.
