J Tomlinson signs Building Mental Health charter
February 3, 2020
J Tomlinson has become one of the latest organisations to sign the Building Mental Health (BMH) charter, further supporting the company’s commitment to improving mental health across the building and infrastructure industry.
Building Mental Health is an online portal of information about mental health led by industry experts, with an aim to ‘enable all parts of the construction sector to access mental health support, provide awareness and training to support people working in and around our industry.’
Signing the charter is the latest mental health-focused initiative J Tomlinson has embraced, having already introduced an Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) as well as a team of Mental Health First Aiders (MHFAs) to help support its 500 employees.
The EAP is an employer-funded benefit that provides unlimited support to staff and their families via confidential face-to-face, telephone or online counselling with qualified professionals, whilst Mental Health First Aiders are existing employees whom have received in-depth Mental Health First Aid England training, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to provide initial support to those who may be experiencing emotional issues such as depression, anxiety and/or psychosis.
Subcontractors working on J Tomlinson-managed sites are also able to access and take advantage of the MHFA service.
The current volunteers leading the initiatives of Building Mental Health are:
Martin Coyd OBE – Former Operations Director for Health and Safety at MACE
Brian Van Campenhout – Head of Environmental Health and Safety at LENDLEASE
Revd. Kevin Fear – Strategy Lead on Health and Safety at CITB
Bill Hill – Chief Executive of the Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity
