Project Background
GE has earned a reputation for high quality, high accuracy pressure sensor equipment for aerospace, oil and gas, power generation and the automotive sector. Today, over 700 people work at the firm’s Groby site.
The GE Measurement and Control site at Groby in Leicestershire underwent a major refurbishment following a fire at the premises in 2014. The £2.4 million office refurbishment was a joint delivery between J Tomlinson’s construction division and our M&E services team.
J Tomlinson was appointed by GE to undertake the full refurbishment of the firm’s fire-damaged offices. The 1,600m² of office accommodation required a total refurbishment, taking the building back to its original shell.
J Tomlinson Solution
The project involved installing low energy and cost-saving LED lighting alongside modern building services to meet the needs of office staff, and a state of the art sprinkler system throughout the offices.
Works on the project ranged from replacement of damaged roof spaces, to installation of new windows and façade features. Close collaboration between J Tomlinson and our project partners ensured the smooth installation, development, and decoration of the internal office spaces to a high specification, on time and budget. The two storeys of GE’s Unit A are now completely transformed with smart meeting spaces and technologies, bespoke work spaces and offices, with breakaway areas for employees. The contract also included associated external works, including landscaping at the front of the building.
As the principal contractor, we identified the electrical works on the project as a key and complex part of this fast track programme. We took the opportunity to deliver this with our own in house mechanical and electrical team, which included the installation of the new Building Management System (BMS) technology.
