Project Background
Jigsaw Homes Midlands is part of the Jigsaw Group and
owns around 3,300 homes across Nottinghamshire.
J Tomlinson was appointed by Jigsaw to undertake internal
refurbishment works across Moreland Court – an over-55s
sheltered scheme based in Carlton, Nottinghamshire. Spanning
corridors and communal areas, works would include upgrades
to lighting, flooring, handrails, as well as creation of two new
entrance foyers. The scheme, which contains 66 apartments,
remained fully operational throughout the project.
J Tomlinson's Approach
Resident and staff engagement
As well as holding weekly coffee mornings and drop-in sessions for residents, we also organised and delivered a dementia awareness workshop open to residents, family, friends, and scheme staff. Delivered by one of J Tomlinson Dementia Friends champions, this event was very well-attended whilst helping to further raise awareness around to better help people living with dementia.
Live sheltered scheme environment
Throughout the project, we enjoyed building positive relationships with Moreland Court’s residents and staff to help them feel comfortable whilst works were taking place. Close and regular liaison with scheme staff helped ensure minimal disruption was caused to Moreland Court’s daily activities.
Works were halted between 12 and 1pm each day to allow residents to safely make their way to the dining room for lunch, ensuring there was always ample space for mobility scooters and strollers. These regular, pre-scheduled breaks also provided residents and staff respite from any noise.
COVID-19 safe working
The emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic meant that the project was temporarily placed on hold to help ensure the safety and wellbeing of residents and staff. Upon relaxation of government restrictions, J Tomlinson followed its stringent health and safety measures, meeting virtually with the client and wider project team. When on site, we adhered firmly to social distancing and hygiene guidelines, with COVID-19-specific toolbox talks delivered on a regular basis.
