Double success for J Tomlinson at the 2018 Building Communities Awards
February 23, 2018
J Tomlinson has scooped two accolades at the 2018 Building Communities Awards.
The company took home awards for Health and Safety, as well as Collaborative Working – a joint title in recognition of the successful capital works partnership between J Tomlinson and long-term client Ashfield District Council.
The awards, hosted by procurement consortium, EEM Ltd, recognise and celebrate the remarkable achievements made within the housing and construction industry by social housing providers, contractors and manufacturers. This year’s judging panel comprised Jenny Osbourne - Chief Executive of TPAS - Tenant Engagement Experts, Jayne Gowler - Senior Commercial Manager Police and Fire at the Home Office, Pieter Eksteen - Business Training Programmes Manager at the East Midlands Chamber, and Rob Mayo - President of the East Midlands Chamber.
J Tomlinson was also runner-up of the Community & Social Value Award – a brand new category introduced ahead of this year’s ceremony, which took place at the East Midlands Conference Centre, Nottingham, on Friday 16th February.
This is the fourth year of the awards, which saw 400 housing and construction professionals gather in support of their colleagues, tenants and suppliers. Comedian and TV presenter, Kevin Durham, hosted the evening, which included a three-course dinner, live entertainment, and a charity auction that raised an incredible £33,000 in aid of Rainbows Hospice.
J Tomlinson also sponsored the coveted Tenant of the Year Award, designed to honour the efforts of an individual tenant who has gone the extra mile to improve the lives of others.
Four people were shortlisted for the award, which was taken home by Dennis Rees, tenant and lifetime operational board member of Derby Homes, who was judged to be the winner following his exceptional services to social housing and fellow tenants, which – in 2009 – saw him presented with an OBE.
Mark Davis, CEO of J Tomlinson, commented: “We are delighted to have been recognised at this year’s Building Communities Awards. As a company, we invest heavily in the well-being of our staff, clients and the communities in which we work, and I am delighted to see that our commitment to health and safety has been acknowledged and commended.
“It is also fantastic to be able to share an award with one of our longest-standing clients, Ashfield District Council, with whom we have enjoyed an excellent relationship stretching over ten years. The partnership between the council and J Tomlinson has yielded significant benefits for the council’s residents and communities through a range of housing improvement works, fundraising, and the delivery of an extensive employment and skills programme.
“Congratulations to all finalists and winners. It is wonderful to see so many notable contributions to the industry.”
Paul Parkinson, Director of Housing and Assets at Ashfield District Council, added: “Ashfield District Council are very proud of this award and it would not have been possible without the ongoing hard work and commitment of everyone who has been involved. We have been working in partnership with J Tomlinson to improve areas of Ashfield. The ongoing partnership will see over £30m invested in upgrading, renewing and regenerating Ashfield’s Housing Stock.”
Nottingham-based J Tomlinson operates primarily across South Yorkshire, the East Midlands and the West Midlands, offering a range of integrated building services which include construction, mechanical and electrical services (M&E), facilities management, refurbishment, repairs and maintenance and regeneration.
