J Tomlinson breaks ground on £6m school development in Redditch
October 14, 2019
J Tomlinson has broken ground on a new £6 million primary school and nursery in the Worcestershire town of Redditch.
When it completes in December next year, the brand new 2,000m2 single-storey building will replace the existing Holyoakes Field First School and Nursery, providing a contemporary, efficient learning environment for teachers and pupils.
The timber-framed building will accommodate 26 nursery places, plus reception and classes for years one to four, and is being delivered to meet environmental BREEAM ‘Very Good’ standards.
Construction, maintenance and refurbishment specialist J Tomlinson has been appointed to build the school by Place Partnership, which delivers property services on behalf of a number of public bodies and local authorities, including Worcestershire County Council.
Darroch Baker, managing director (construction) at J Tomlinson, said: “The new school building will be purpose-built around the needs of the students and teachers and has been designed to ensure that it is sustainable and environmentally friendly. We will now be working closely with Place Partnership and Worcestershire County Council in the delivery of these new school facilities.”
Being built as part of the Brockhill East development, the new school is on the northern edge of the town and a ceremonial ground-breaking event has been held to mark the start of construction on site.
Worcestershire County Council statement
Councillor Marcus Hart, Cabinet Member for Education and Skills, at Worcestershire County Council, said: “This location provides a great improvement over the schools’ current site. This new building will provide an excellent learning environment for the students attending the primary school and those children attending the nursery class.”
Place Partnership statement
Alan Moutter, from Place Partnership, said: “We work with schools across the region and it’s always a great moment to see the start of work on a development. J Tomlinson has extensive experience in the education sector and we are confident that they will deliver a great new school for Redditch.”
