October 11, 2022
J Tomlinson is proud to have completed the full strip out and refurbishment of 152 bedrooms, ensuites, and 22 shared kitchen and dining areas at the Lakeside 3 accommodation on behalf of University of Warwick.
The £5 million summer refurbishment demanded 24-hour shift patterns and seven days a week working, including two bank holidays. With 85 operatives onsite each day, the project accumulated an impressive 78,000 operations hours across the 11-week programme.
During this intense working period, operations were additionally coordinated to accommodate Commonwealth Games athletes, who were residing on campus.
Managing Director of Refurbishment at J Tomlinson, Iain Davies said: “We are extremely proud to have delivered such a physically demanding refurbishment programme for the University of Warwick. Achieving completion on time with zero accidents is testament to the total commitment of our Project Team and Supply Chain.
“Delivering a programme of this speed and intensity doesn’t come without its challenges, but we have worked closely with the university to overcome these and achieve an exceptional living space for students.”
This refurbishment is the latest of many developments J Tomlinson has delivered for the University of Warwick since 2017. Other completed schemes include the refurbishment of the Lakeside 1 accommodation, Westwood Campus, Zeeman, Economics Building, Arthur Vick 3 accommodation, and Warwick Business School.
Senior Project Manager for the University of Warwick, Jonathon Buckingham said: “Despite being faced with the aftereffects of Brexit, Covid-19, unprecedented heat waves, and an unforeseen Bank Holiday, this mammoth task was completed in an unfazed and professional manner right down to the last day.
“The finish and quality of workmaship achieved in the last 11 weeks is up there with the best we have handed back to accommodation on a major refurbishment project like this.”
