J Tomlinson completes string of University of Warwick schemes

March 24, 2020

J Tomlinson has completed more than £12m worth of projects at the University of Warwick in recent times, building on the long-term relationship forged between the two organisations.

In May 2019, J Tomlinson was appointed onto the university’s ten-year Capital Programme Framework. This led to the Nottingham-based contractor securing a mechanical and electrical services (M&E) and building maintenance services contract to work on the roof of the Zeeman Institute to improve ventilation, a window and door replacement scheme at Warwick Business School, a refurbishment of ground floor male toilet and shower facilities at Warwick Medical School, and a contract for the extension to the economics building, which included reconfiguration of mechanical and electrical work.

On top of this, J Tomlinson also completed a full refurbishment to the Lakeside student apartments, which included a rewire and new bathrooms, and refurbishment of Arthur Vicks block 1 student accommodation. This followed refurbishment work on 250 bedrooms and bathrooms in 2018 on two other Arthur Vick accommodation blocks at the university’s main campus in Coventry.

In 2018, the company completed a contract to replace 350 windows, 68 external doors and 16 curtain walling systems at the university’s Scarman Conference Centre and Hotel in a project that included the structural refurbishment of balconies to incorporate glazed balustrading, reconstruction of entrance porches, minor structural remedial works and refurbishment and redecoration of the lounge area.

These projects follow the very first job undertaken by J Tomlinson for the University of Warwick – a £1m refurbishment of the Avon building on the Westwood Campus during the 2017/2018 academic year, which included improvements to the café and the Centre for Lifelong Learning, plus the creation of an editing suite, green room, family room, toilets and drama room.

Educational refurbishment and maintenance specialists

Refurbishment and engineering director at J Tomlinson, Pete Woods, said: “J Tomlinson is a company that prides itself on building long-term relationships with its clients and we have been delighted to support the University of Warwick with its programme of improvements and refurbishments.

“The education sector is a sector that J Tomlinson has significant experience in – both in terms of building and refurbishing facilities and student accommodation – and this wide spread of projects at the University of Warwick illustrates our portfolio in this area. We understand the importance of timescales and several of these projects have been completed as fast-track improvements during university summer recess to avoid disruption to university life where possible.”

Statement from the University of Warwick:

In a statement the University of Warwick said: “We are pleased to have J Tomlinson as one of our framework contractors and we continue to benefit from their experience and expertise.”
