J Tomlinson expands extra care new build portfolio
December 17, 2020
J Tomlinson is showcasing its expertise as one of the nation’s leading constructors of specialist and luxury care facilities following several recent appointments and handovers.
The company, which primarily operates across the Midlands, Yorkshire, Northern and Central England, has recently secured and completed a number of new build care home schemes, with its ever‐growing portfolio of expertise featuring retirement and assisted‐living schemes, dementia care facilities and neurological care centres.
Most recently, the company has been appointed by long‐term client, Hamberley Development, to manage construction of an 80‐bed dementia care home in Edwalton, Nottingham.
4th scheme delivered in partnership with Hamberley Development
The project, which will mark the 4th scheme delivered by J Tomlinson in partnership with Hamberley Development, will include creation of nursing, residential and special dementia‐friendly rooms, as well as a variety of facilities for prospective residents including activity rooms, deluxe cinema, café, library and hair and beauty salon.
Works began in October, with the scheme based off Landmere Lane, where J Tomlinson completed construction of a new multi‐million-pound Grade A office scheme Edwalton Business Park earlier in the year.
The company is currently undertaking two additional luxury care home projects on behalf of Hamberley Development, both of which are in their early stages on site.
One will be based in Cofton Hackett, Worcestershire, where J Tomlinson has recently laid the foundations for the new building, which will incorporate a boutique café, cinema, lounges and private dining room along with 70 en‐suite rooms.
Set to complete by summer 2022, the home will offer a “safe and luxurious environment for residents and their families” and will be fully Covid‐19 secure.
Set to complete in autumn 2021, J Tomlinson is also working on a new Georgian‐style Hamberley care home in Brampton, Cambridgeshire, where construction is well underway. When complete, the home will feature a boutique café, cinema, lounges and private dining room, along with 70 en‐suite rooms.
Previous specialist care schemes J Tomlinson has delivered in partnership with Hamberley Development include the design and build of Gracewell of Sutton Coldfield (a 65‐bed care home and conservative club pavilion completed in summer 2016), the construction of 70‐bed award‐winning Chawley Grove Care Home, (which opened in Cumnor, Oxfordshire, last April) and Inspire Neurocare Worcester – a purpose‐built, two storey neurological care centre which opened in March 2020.
Quote from Mark Davis, chief executive at J Tomlinson
Mark Davis, chief executive at J Tomlinson, commented: “J Tomlinson is delighted to be working in partnership with Hamberley once again to create three new luxury care facilities. We’ve enjoyed a long‐standing relationship with our client over the past four years, based on high‐quality project delivery, excellent communication and – most critically – a key understanding of Hamberley’s vision and their approach to providing a safe, comfortable and supportive environment for residents.
“As a leading provider to the care sector, we understand the critical importance of the right built environment in the delivery of person‐centred care, working closely with our clients and project teams to deliver high quality schemes tailored to supporting the care and wellbeing of elderly and vulnerable individuals.”
Quote from John Austin, development director at Hamberley Development
John Austin, Development Director at Hamberley Development, said he was pleased that the partnership with J Tomlinson continued to go from strength to strength.
He said: “As a developer of the highest quality luxury care homes we set an exacting standard because the fabric and the construction of the care environment has a huge bearing on the quality of care we deliver.
“This is even more so in the era of COVID‐19 and we have worked closely with the team at J Tomlinson to develop truly Covid‐secure environments, from the inclusion of thermal imaging technology to the installation of leading‐edge ventilation systems and Covid‐secure visitation suites.
“Our residents choose a Hamberley Development home because we provide both safety and luxury combined. J Tomlinson are helping us to deliver on our promise.”
J Tomlinson’s recently-completed extra care projects
J Tomlinson’s refurbishment team has also recently handed over three significant care projects including creation of two extensions to support dementia care at Galanos House, Warwickshire, in partnership with The Royal British Legion, internal upgrades to Pannel Croft Retirement Village (owned and managed by The Extra Care Charitable Trust), and the transformation of the former Nethercrest Care Centre into a state‐of‐the‐art assisted living complex on behalf of client Precious Homes.
