J Tomlinson named RHI Installer of the Year at regional Energy Efficiency Awards

May 20, 2019

J Tomlinson has triumphed at the East Midlands Energy Efficiency Awards after being named Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) installer / Contractor of the Year.

The Nottingham-based maintenance, construction and refurbishment services partner was nominated by Area Eco following an air source heat pump scheme that is helping to tackle fuel poverty and increase energy efficiency across 26 off-grid properties.

The project, which was delivered last year by J Tomlinson on behalf of Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council, involved the replacement of expensive-to-run electric storage heaters with air source heat pumps. These semi-renewable air-to-water systems, which are ideal for off-gas properties, work by extracting heat from the air outside and distributing it around the home via radiators and underfloor heating, enabling residents to generate their own heat whilst saving money on their energy bills.

The project received upfront funding from the Warm Homes Fund, as well as the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI), both of which were designed to support social landlords and local authorities in addressing fuel poverty through the installation of energy efficient heating systems.

The Energy Efficiency Awards, which are held on a regional and national basis each year, recognise and celebrate contributions made within the energy efficiency sector that help residents reduce their energy bills, tackle fuel poverty, and reduce carbon emissions. The East Midlands ceremony took place at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Castle Donington.

J Tomlinson’s Low Carbon Expertise and Experience

Steve Kirkland, domestic and commercial maintenance director at J Tomlinson, commented: “As a key provider of maintenance and installation services to the housing sector, we work closely with clients such as Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council to deliver energy efficient, sustainable and affordable heating solutions that benefit social landlords and residents alike. We are honoured to have been named Renewable Heat Incentive Installer of the Year.”

The firm has experienced considerable success working with clients to install renewable heating systems, including ground and air source heat pumps, which help clients maximise their RHI income whilst reducing resident energy bills. In 2017, a ground source heat pump scheme undertaken by J Tomlinson in partnership with Bromford Housing and Vaillant was named Small Scale Project of the Year due to projected lifetime fuel savings of c1,044TCO2 and an associated cost saving of £91,875.
