Residents at supported housing scheme in Coventry receive new kitchen facilities and living essentials thanks to J Tomlinson and partners

May 5, 2021

J Tomlinson has gifted residents at a supported housing scheme with personalised goodie bags following a refurbishment scheme delivered in the middle of the UK’s second national lockdown period.

The company has been working in partnership with Midland Heart to undertake private kitchen upgrades across The Foyer in Coventry – a supported housing scheme designed to provide temporary accommodation and housing-related support to enable young people aged between 18 and 24 years old to move towards independent living.

The project marks the latest undertaken in partnership with Midland Heart during the six-year partnership between the two organisations, and saw J Tomlinson working across over 60 occupied flats during the government’s second national lockdown period implemented in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. Works included replacement of the original kitchen units, as well as electrical re-wiring, decorative and flooring works – all undertaken in line with government guidelines to help keep service users, staff, and the site team safe by preventing the spread of infection.

Building Strong Relationships - Client, Service Users, and Supply Chain Partners

During the seven-week project, J Tomlinson worked closely with scheme staff and occupants, with the strong, trusting relationships built over the course of the scheme providing instrumental to the timely delivery of works.

Moved by many of the experiences of residents of The Foyer, J Tomlinson’s site team and supply chain partners joined forces to create personalised goodie bags to help further support service-users, containing cleaning and hygiene essentials including shower and dental-care projects. The bags were presented on site on Wednesday 21st April, with site and scheme staff in attendance at a socially distanced photoshoot.

Quote from Coventry Foyer’s Scheme Manager:

Coventry Foyer’s scheme manager, Lucy Downing, commented: “Investing in our homes is our number one priority and sits at the centre of everything we do. It’s thanks to partners like J Tomlinson that we’re able to carry out these improvements, even during these challenging times.

“Everyone working on site from J Tomlinson was cheerful, respectful and really accommodating and more importantly our customers felt safe.

“Nothing was too much trouble for the team – they went above and beyond to ensure everything went to plan. Their generous donations to our customers were very much appreciated, and I know I speak on behalf of the entire scheme when I say that J Tomlinson will be missed!”

Quote from Ant Newton:

Ant Newton, managing director (regeneration) at J Tomlinson, commented: “We’re really pleased to know that customers and staff at the Coventry Foyer are happy with their upgraded independent living areas following refurbishment works recently delivered by our regeneration team.

This marks the latest high-quality scheme we’ve successfully handed over in partnership with our long-term client, Midland Heart. A special thank you to all occupants for their understanding, co-operation and kindness during the project - we hope that the items donated by our project team and supply chain partners will help the young people living at Coventry Foyer in their journey to independent living.”

J Tomlinson has worked with Midland Heart since 2015 after partnering with the West Midlands-based housing association on a long-term contract that sees J Tomlinson delivering kitchen and bathroom installations, re-wiring, and pre-service works across Dudley, Birmingham, Coventry and Wolverhampton.
