Students in Doncaster benefit from 1:1 careers support from J Tomlinson
May 18, 2021
Earlier this month, two members of J Tomlinson’s Doncaster-based regeneration team visited Doncaster Communication Specialist College, which provides education and learning opportunities for people with specialist communication needs, including deafness, autism and learning difficulties. During their visit, customer service manager, Tracey, and resident liaison officer, Bex, carried out mock interviews with six of the College’s students to help them develop their skills and confidence in preparation for entering the world of work.
All students did extremely well in their 1:1 interview sessions, and we are already booked in to visit the College again next month to further support its fantastic careers programme. Some of the feedback from students included:
“I saw Melissa at break time, and she was really proud of herself and told a few members of staff that she had done well.”
“Blaze has come back very pleased with himself.”
“Freya couldn’t stop smiling she was really proud of what she had achieved.”
Tracey, customer service manager (Regeneration) at J Tomlinson, said: “A huge thank you to Doncaster Communication Specialist College for having us earlier this week whilst we conducted mock interviews with students.
“The students were so engaged and we are proud to have helped them build up on their confidence and skillsets when it comes to the interview process – which, as we all know, can be daunting at times.
“During our visit, me and resident liaison officer, Becky, were treated to a tour of the college’s joiners shop and were blown away by some of the creations. We are very much looking forward to visiting the again next month to provide further ongoing careers support.”
This is just one of the many education-related initiatives that J Tomlinson is supporting as part of its 4-and-a-half year partnership with St Leger Homes of Doncaster, helping to give back to the homes, people, communities and businesses of Doncaster. Find out more about the partnership here.
