Success for J Tomlinson and Ashfield District Council at East Midlands Energy Efficiency Awards

April 25, 2018

J Tomlinson has been highly commended at the 2018 East Midlands Energy Efficiency Awards.

The Nottingham-based company was shortlisted in the Regional Large Scale Project of the Year category alongside client Ashfield District Council. The commendation follows a joint energy-saving scheme between J Tomlinson and the council that is expected to save residents an estimated £450 per year, per property.

The scheme, which was carried out last year, involved thermal efficiency works being undertaken to the Coxmoor Estate - owned by Ashfield District Council – comprising external wall insulation, replacement doors and windows, and new roof coverings with solid insulation to 36 bungalows, housing tenants of whom the majority are elderly and/or disabled.

As well as helping residents stay warm and save money on their heating bills, the project also delivered benefits to the community through tenant engagement initiatives organised by J Tomlinson and the council. Upon completion of the project in autumn, one tenant told J Tomlinson: “You have made our home look like a new build. We look forward to spending the winter in our warm, cosy home.”

The awards ceremony also brought success for long-standing J Tomlinson client, Ashfield District Council, who was named East Midlands ‘Landlord of the Year’ in testament to the council’s dedication to improving the welfare and quality of life for its tenants and local community. J Tomlinson has worked with the council for over ten years, and in 2014 was appointed to carry out more than £30m worth of improvements to the council’s housing stock, with a strong focus on thermal efficiency.

Ant Newton, Director (Regeneration) at J Tomlinson, commented: “We are pleased to have been recognised at the energy efficiency awards for a project we delivered in conjunction with Ashfield District Council, with whom we share a passion for making a difference to those around us

“We would like to wish the council huge congratulations on being named Landlord of the Year at the East Midlands Energy Efficiency Awards.

“Having enjoyed a long-term partnership with the council for over ten years, we have witnessed first-hand their dedication to reducing fuel poverty to the benefit of residents. We are very proud to work with such a forward-thinking council that puts the welfare and wellbeing of its communities at the forefront of its vision.”

Ian Bailey, Assets and Procurement Manager at Ashfield District Council, commented: “Tackling fuel poverty is a key priority in the Council’s Housing Strategy, and we are absolutely delighted on our win. We will continue to work with our partners to provide affordable housing for our tenants, with a view to providing savings, minimising lifecycle costs, and helping to sustain the local community.”
